The PSU American Society of Civil Engineers Concrete Canoe team is a group of students focused on designing, building, and racing a canoe made entirely out of concrete. The competition allows students to apply engineering and project management concepts that they will need in their professional careers, and it helps students network with peers and professionals.
The main research focus of our group is to determine the most efficient hull, concrete mix, and racing strategy that will result in the highest possible score at the ASCE Pacific Northwest Regional Student Conference, held every spring.
The canoe team needs your support to be successful in this year’s competition. The project involves significant costs associated with supplies, tools, and travel. Although the costs are significant, they are outweighed by the benefit to the students’ development. The real-world experience, problem solving skills, and networking opportunities that the student gain help them be more successful in school and in the professional practice.
